Anat Baniel Method

The Anat Baniel Method (ABM) is another non traditional therapy that focuses on retraining the brain through neuromovement.   Our brains are amazing.  Have you heard the term, brain plasticity? You probably learned about it in biology, and have probably not thought of it since.  Our brains are able to continuously change throughout our lives and are able to reorganize itself by forming new connections between brain cells.  This can be done without us even trying, and it can be learned.  ABM focuses on creating new paths for the brain, kind of like waking up the brain to help the body learn new things.  It is fascinating!

I can’t remember when I first heard of ABM, but I’m assuming it was probably around the same time I found craniosacral therapy.  Again, it is a non-invasive therapy, had proven results, and was worth a shot!  The first thing I did was read Anat’s book, Kids Beyond Limits.  I wanted to make sure it made sense for Logan’s (at that time) undiagnosed delays.  It did.  It made so much sense to her challenges and to why she kept plateauing at therapies.  Basically, we were trying to bring her into our world when we should be going into her world, working with her brain instead of how we wanted her brain to work.  A little confusing, but more to come with that!
